The air of civilisation smells nice. It refreshes the soul. While waiting for Shi to go JP, I went to the library. Serenity of the library calms the soul as you watch people battling the heavy rain. I came across this interesting piece of article. Quoting Pat Buchana, an US politician -
" Rome Empire - a conglonerate of races & cultures held together by a regime. The country I grew up in was culturally united, even if it was racially divided. Now we have hundred thousands of people who want to retain their own loyalty, culture and language."

This quotation touches my heart as I battle with the idea of what is the Singapore identity. Singapore identity in my humble and innocent opinon is an identity that is held by our belief, culture and love for the country. An identity that makes us proud of the country and die for the country when the calling comes. Do we have them? What is the belief we are taking up? A belief that economical survival of the nation is the utmost? Then out Singapore identity has proven to be broken easily because economical threat can break our identity. Maybe studying in NUS will makes me feel like a "scholar" in China or India.
I definitely hope its my foolishness to yet comprehend the graveness of the economical threat we are facing and hence the conglonerate of nationalities can make us into a stronger country, maybe at the extend of our identity. Afterall, we are made up of different races and culture, not held by a regime but by choice.
